History
The story of NEOPLAN Bus GmbH
Gottlob Auwärter's exceptional entrepreneurial spirit enabled the NEOPLAN company to continually expand and created a brand that is known all over the world and plays a key role within the MAN Group today.
After the company was founded in 1935, it took nearly 14 years to produce 1,000 NEOPLAN buses. However, the 2,000th vehicle was completed only five years later. Nowadays, ten thousand buses and millions of kilometres are driven in the service of customers, NEOPLAN is regarded as one of the most innovative companies in the industry and has an unparalleled worldwide reputation as bus manufacturer. From an insignificant bodybuilding workshop in Swabia to globally-recognised bus manufacturer – the NEOPLAN company history is characterised by progress, creativity and relentless entrepreneurial spirit: the first self-supporting bus body, the innovative air suspension, the first airport bus, the first low-floor buses in lengths of up to 18.75 metres, revolutionary high and double-decker buses – also as articulated models – through to tests with wheel hub motors and fuel cell drive technology with very promising results. Through a large number of unique innovations the company became a global role model in relation to innovative technology, driving comfort and design. Also today, NEOPLAN, with technologies such as the new safety-enhancing cornering light, a highly-stable safety cell with reinforced side-wall connections and first active bus chassis in the world, has a unique position in the premium bus market. NEOPLAN is one of the few companies that can claim to have more than 40 years of experience in the construction of touring and scheduled-service double decker buses: as clearly evidenced by an order for 400 double-decker buses for Berlin and Dubai respectively.
In Milestones NEOPLAN presents its history which is steeped in tradition featuring the most important events from the last 70 years and more – a success story characterised by progress, creativity and Swabian entrepreneurial spirit.
