Buses have undergone rapid development in recent years. High-tech equipment is now a standard feature. But the best technology is effective only if the driver can use it with confidence.
It is part of NEOPLAN’s policy that the training and ongoing training of bus drivers plays a central role. As an operator you save costs. In addition you bear the responsibility for your passengers and other road users.
The goal of our courses is: "Learning by experiencing" – practical experience therefore has high priority.
Braking systems and electronic safety devices
When these systems are correctly used they support the driver in difficult driving conditions and in extreme situations. Serious accidents can thus be avoided. In these training courses the NEOPLAN Academy e.V. complies with the DVR safety programme. Under the supervision of experienced instructors a number of emergency situations are simulated and ways of handling them presented.
Antiblock system (ABS)
Traction-slip control (ASR)
Electronic braking system (EBS)
Retarder brakes
Electronic stability programme (ESP)
Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
Lane guard system (LGS)
Comfort drive suspension (CDS)
Course programme:
The safety training courses start with a theoretical introduction – adapted to the individual course either for city buses or for coaches. The practical exercises start on this basis. Difficult driving situations are presented as real-life and concrete situations. For example, the participants drive on watered skid tracks with a friction coefficient which corresponds with that of a snow-covered surface. Possible driving errors, which in real road traffic can lead to dangerous situations, are analysed. The training shows the optimal way to react and gives the driver many practical means of tackling the situation.
Individual exercises
Optimal operation of vehicles
Working out the optimal stopping distance or the best braking method
Avoiding obstacles which suddenly appear or permanent obstructions
Working out the correct cornering method on a slippery surface
(Emergency) braking before and in the bend

Course: Economy training for bus/coach drivers
In view of the fact that nowadays cost savings and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important, NEOPLAN Academy e.V. is offering a comprehensive energy-saving training course.
Studies show that 10 to 20 percent of fuel can be saved. The efficiency of your buses can thus be increased even farther. This challenge can be met by skilled drivers aware of the technology involved.
Further advantages of an economical driving style and driving with foresight are less wear on the engine, clutch, gearbox, tyres and running gear. This has a positive effect on the vehicle’s running costs. A reduction in the consumption of up to 5 litres per 100 km is by no means unrealistic.
The course will be held in your own vehicles at your location and on your routes by qualified ECO trainers. The trainers will fit mobile fuel consumption measuring equipment to your vehicles and remove it on completion of the course.
